LUENELL

luenell.jpg

Luenell was born in Tollette, Arkansas, a town whose population barely registers with the U.S. census. At about ten years old she caught the acting bug when she saw the plays South Pacific and Ain’t S’posed to Die a Natural Death. She enrolled in theatre classes at the grade school level and continued to study through college and cut her teeth at the Oakland Ensemble Theatre.

In March of 1995, Luenell’s mom passed away and one month later  she discovered she was pregnant – months later, a beautiful daughter Da’Nelle was born and she is the joy of her life, her “miracle child” as Luenell puts it.

Just when life seemed rosy, Luenell got a rude awakening. Law enforcement agents caught up with her and immediately took her to jail. Luenell was sentenced to 365 days for a series of  indiscretions while working at a bank months earlier. It played out like an episode of Lil’ Kim on Court TV. She actually served 4 months and 18 days. A lot of the inmates recognized her from her appearances on BET’s Comic View. Ironically, a film about prison life at Alcatraz, in which she starred in, entitled, “The Rock”, was filmed at the same location of the jail (Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles). The most devastating part for Luenell was the fact that she could not see her daughter.

Luenell is becoming increasingly popular from her appearances in television film and videos.  Best know for her controversial role as the “hooker with the heart of gold” in the blockbuster comedy of 2006 “Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorius Nation Of Kazakhastan” Luenell is recognized by the mainstream and urban sectors of the population from DVDs such as “Katt Williams American Hustle” and “Laffapalooza” with Jamie Foxx. Luenell starred in the hip-hop cult classic film  “Never Die Alone” in which she co-starred with DMX, playing a feisty bartender named Jasper.  She recently completed a 60-city tour with “Money Mike” Katt Williams, who states. “Luenell is dynamic.  We couldn’t do it (the tour) without her.  When she is not around, we really miss her, so we decided we shouldn’t miss her at all. Hollywood you’re sleepin’ but you’ll catch up.” –Katt Williams

Well, Hollywood has opened their eyes as Luenell recently completed several feature films: “Spring Breakdown” with Parker Posey and Amber Tamblyn, “All About Steve” with Sandra Bullock, “Divine Intervention” with James Avery and Wesley Jonathan, and “The Hustle” with Charlie Murphy and Kym Whitley.

Luenell is living her dream.  With such an intriguing past, one would wonder how can she be so funny, but it’s just that…life.  With every little snag, and she has had many, she somehow manages to poke fun of her experiences making audiences howl with laughter, even though at the time, she was in great distress. Through it all, help has been there along the way from relatives, friends and her faith in God to ease the pain.  Her reputation as a comic superstar continues to flourish, “…comedy demolition machine” (EURweb report) “a sidesplitting high wired act without a net…” (Comedy Reviewer Buddy Sampson), “…comedy to die for.” (Metro LA)  “…one of the top 25 funniest people in LA (Los Angeles Magazine) and the accolades continue to roll.

There is no question about it, Luenell is a comic genius. But the girl from Tollette with a tale that reads like The Perils of Pauline would like everyone to know, that deep down inside, “I am a nice person.” –Luenell

"SHORTY"

shorty0794web.jpg

"Live your life" is the motto that has gotten SHORTY to where he is today.  Born in Raritan, New Jersey and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, SHORTY not only attributes his talents and charismatic demeanor to the various environments in which he has lived, but also to the diverse amount of people he has met on his path to stardom.  These interactions highly motivated him to develop a sense of humor that appeals to ALL audiences and allowed him to gain an appreciation and interest in comedy. So while earning his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice at Seton Hall University, he decided to follow his dream and entered the comedy scene with determination.  It then all started when Bill Bellamy saw the potential in a starving comedian like SHORTY and gave him his first big break to perform in front of a treacherous crowd at the Peppermint Lounge in East Orange, New Jersey.  At the time, SHORTY was charged with following the tough acts of celebrities of Mike Epps and Talent.  Although SHORTY stood in front of the audience with strong determination, he still left a blank look on the faces of many at the end of his performance.  It was a moment in time never to be forgotten, as well as one that turned out to be one of the greatest learning experiences in SHORTY's career.  Since then, crowds across the Northeast have been left gasping for air as the comedy style of SHORTY blessed the stages of Caroline's, Rascals, Stand-Up New York, New York Comedy Club, Boston Comedy Club, Comic Strip Live, the 98.7 KISS FM "Comedy in the Garden" Competition at Madison Square Garden, and many more.  College students up and down the East Coast skipped class to follow his comedy tour to Rutgers University, William Paterson University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Seton Hall University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Kean University.Due to his unexpected references, real-life scenarios, and warm personality, SHORTY has appeared as a host in several locations including Don't Tell Mama and the Cheetah Club.  Working hand-in-hand with comedians Mike Epps, Jay Anthony Brown, and actor Dulé Hill, he contributes his success not only to his hard work, but also to the support of his family and friends.  So, live your life and come out to his present location, On the Job Sports Café in Northern NJ, to witness the latest phenomenon in comedy.  You won't be disappointed!

DR. GEEK

BigGeekinblue.jpg

blueblockers.gif

Dr. Geek; Wordologist, rhymer, writer, comedian. Detroit Michigan is the town of Dr. Geek’s humble beginnings. In 1969 at the age of 14, he began his voyage long before rap or hip-hop, as an ice cream man selling his wares to the kids on the eastside of the Motor City.  Whether it was in school or selling ice cream, kids and parents alike would look forward to hearing the rhymester sing his jingles.  He was the unofficial cheerleader at Kettering High School’s sporting events. You could still hear the echoes of the “Wine Song” and other fight songs reverberating off the floors and walls of the hallowed gym of Kettering High, where Dr. Geek, as the 13th man from time to time, brought the basketball team back from certain annihilation, with an inspirational rhyme pumping new life into the crowd and team, and from the dismal dregs of defeat, another bone chiller victory. Hanging out at the Motorcycle Clubs in Detroit singing rhymes over funk tunes on the dance floor and taking the crowds up to a fevered frenzied of funkiness also help develop his lyrical skills. Geek would get invited to elementary and middle schools at the early stages of his career around the Motor City, when the rap craze hit. Little did Geek realize the lyrical development he would go through.  It seems that time finally caught up with Dr. Geek and gave his vaunted rhyme ability a forum in which to expand, for 18 years in unique improvised rhyme schemes; he inspired the kids and their families.  He started street performing at the Michigan Wolverines football tailgate parties in 1985.

On December 26, 1986, Dr. Geek’s mom drove him to the downtown Greyhound Bus Station where Geek, armed 2 suitcases, a loaf of baloney sandwiches, and $80.00 cash began the three-day journey to California and continued developing his skills of involving the crowd into an improvisational format at; UCLA, USC, Raiders, and 49ers games, and Venice Beach in 1987 where the audience became part of his improvisational troop.

Dr. Geek is one of those peculiar talents that come along once in a lifetime.  Not only is he able to conjure rhymes out of nowhere like a finely honed magician, but the self titled Wordologist humble demeanor makes him a loveable personality to be around.  A rare sense of humor, quick wit, and a down home love for people of all race, gender, creed and color makes Dr.Geek truly a remarkable entity.  Venice Beach, Hollywood, New York City serve as his home base and a melting pot for tourist from all over the world, who have been enlightened, entertained, and truly amazed at Dr. Geek’s ability to ascertain little tid bits of information about their culture and make a rhyming story out of it

He has combined his street performing, stage, film, TV, and stand up performances to parley his talents.  One accomplishment that gave the versifier his greatest visibility to the public was recorded in one take in 1990, his impromptu rap for the BluBlocker Sunglasses infomercial. Dr. Geek made up a rhyme unrehearsed and sold 20 million+ pairs of Blublockers from September 1990 to January 1997, thereby gaining international recognition and respect as an icon on Venice Beach, amassing a seemingly endless following of “Geeksters.  Years later, people not only in America, but Canada, New Zealand, and Australia stills recognize Dr. Geek.

Dr. Geek has appeared in numerous sporting, news programs, TV, film and live venues.

A few of them are as follows;

2007
Dr. Geek’s USA Network appearance on "The Character Road Trip” is airing between "2 Fast 2 Furious” on March 6th 2007 at 9:00pm.

This Week in Baseball with the late Mel Allen, Into The Night with Rick Dees, BET, Yo MTV, Video Hits One, CNN, The Gong Show twice (winner1time) Inside Stuff/NBA, The Tonight Show, Street Stories/with Ed Bradley.  From 1987 to the present, Geek have traveled to several Super Bowls and appeared on Fox Sport News, HBO’s Inside The NFL and the list goes on and on.  At the tailgate parties of college and professional football games, Dr. Geek uses wordology to teach young kids not to converse with strangers alone, and to obey their parents

In 1993 Dr. Geek won the Los Angles K.F.C. Music Fest district competition.   Rock and Roll Legend Bo Diddley gave Geek a high compliment saying: “He’s what I called an authentic rap I never heard him use one cuss word and he’s always saying something positive!”

1990 in LA he teamed up with a fiery passionate lady by the name of Rhoda Robinson and became an active board member of an organization by the name of Brotherhood Through The Arts Foundation (BTTA F).

As a result of all the years of Dr. Geek’s Improvisational Street Show, and his community philanthropy, working with kids through (BTTA F) and co-writing “We Are One”, Later, the BluBlocker Co. would fly him out to New York where he and Rhoda would team up again and write “The Friendship Train” with yet another diversified cast of young people, which would take his writing to a different level and ignite his involvement with foster kids.

In 1995 to the present Geek has lent his remarkable skills to the entertainment and inspiration of the foster kids of the county of Los Angles California, which is overseen by County Supervisor Yvonne Braithewake Burkes

The Los Angeles City Council members honored Dr. Geek with a plaque for his positive raps in 1996.  Dr. Geek was also honored as the 1998 Poet Laureate by the County of Los Angeles and its Supervisor The First Lady, Ms. Yvonne Braithewake Burkes, for his ongoing work with the foster kids of Los Angeles County.

No matter what the endeavors, Dr. Geek and Wordology as he calls it would always be about uplifting and encouraging young and old alike to get along with each other and strive to achieve their fullest potential.

Dr. Geek’s philosophy on life is summed up like this: “WHILE OTHERS ENTERTAIN TO LIVE, I LIVE TO ENTERTAIN” NUFF SAID!

Dr. Geek is currently working on his new album entitled; “Rhyming In The Universe” featuring songs such as; “Who Says White Folks Ain’t Got Rhythm?”, The BluBlocker Song, Lady Liberty and a tribute to Robert De Niro entitled “You Talkin To Me?” and a duet with his nephew David S. Robinson Hicks/Malibu Speed Kid Krew entitled Kids Are People Too!

He is continuing the Peace, Rhythm, & Rhyme-The Common Thread Ambassador of Funk and Entertainment Tour along with Team United National Global Community Outreach Initiative/Universal Family Unity Brotherhood Through The Arts Foundation, in the summer of 2007.

CORINNE IRIZZARRY

jewrican2.jpg

jewrican1.jpg

Hispanic Stand-Up Comedian/Actress Corinne Irizarry makes people laugh about her off the wall life experiences, being a Puerto Rican-Jew, and being even more shocking than most male comics." I'm sure I make my parents roll over in their graves on a daily basis"The comedy business is a man's world and Corinne's acceptance in it is one that will surely get noticed. Corinne's talent coupled with her striking good looks puts her in a category all her own." Are you kidding me! I didn't even realize that I was in the hot category! I was such a late-bloomer in life....I mean I was a real tomboy, so if anyone ever gave me a compliment it usually went unnoticed. To this day I still blush easily when someone says I'm pretty. I was so awkward in HS, no one noticed me. And NOW that I'm almost thirty.... and people consider me hot!Now that's awesome!!"True to her Puerto Rican roots, she speaks fluent Spanish and has received recognition for her work on Telemundo and other Latin infused programs. She has starred in several independent and short films, as well as she has been in over 30 plays/musicals since she started acting at the tender age of nine. With that in mind it's safe to say this energetic female has not slowed down since the entertainment bug bit her.Last year, was one of Corinne's busiest years in Comedy and TV/Film. She starred in a soon to be released Documentary about Stand-Up Comedians called Wit-Hole. She produced, directed and edited some short films with her production company. She was involved with two sketch comedy troupes where she performed weekly. She was a writer on several film and TV projects that are still in production. Which brings us to the most recent project for her this year, she was selected to Host a new show to be aired on Spike TV sometime early in 2008.When she's not involved with television and video projects, she either honing her stand up comedy act or co-hosting Latino Night at the Laugh Factory on Sunset Blvd, in Hollywood CA.Corinne was born somewhere between The Empire State building and a New York hospital; her mother started having contractions while visiting the top of the Empire State building and her parents didn't quite make it to the hospital. Corinne grew up with her mother and two of her 8 half siblings. They moved around a lot for financial reasons and before graduating high school, Corinne had attended over fifteen different schools, lived in over fifty different places and had dealt with homelessness and the loss of both parents. "My poor mother could only speak and understand English, she couldn't read or write in English and back then that meant you couldn't get a job ."Corinne's mother was determined to stay in the States rather than forcing her family to move to Puerto Rico and be raised in a prodominatly Spanish speaking culture. In fact, Corinne's mother learned how to speak English on her own by watching American television and had Corinne do all of the reading and writing she was required to do and translate it for her: Corinne later used this experience in her first stand up comedy routine. The best memory that Corinne can remember on stage occurred when she was fourteen years old. She played Queen Zenith in a local theater production of The Little Mermaid. In one comedic scene where her character had to cry overdramatically, Corinne belted out a hilarious sounding cry and had the audience laughing to tears. She glanced into the audience and saw her mother laughing and crying tears of joy.
"I thought wow, this is so great, making my mother laugh gave me the greatest feeling in the world. I mean even though my mother had NO IDEA what the hell was going on, I'll never forget the look of pride on her face."
Corinne's first experience doing stand up comedy, was in her one-woman show when she was eighteen years old. She did an impersonation of both her mother and herself."It was like the female version of John Leguizamo's one man show. I played two roles at the same time, half dressed as my mother in a mumu on one side and dressed as the cheerleader daughter fighting against her heritage on the other side ."The act was largely based on her relationship with her mother. Tragically, her mother passed during Corinne's senior year in high school. But Corinne was inspired to turn her sadness into laughter and she focused her efforts on being a successful entertainer."Losing my father when I was thirteen was hard enough considering I never got to spend that much time with him, but, losing my mother was like losing part of my soul, but I've realized over the years that with great loss comes great inspiration"After two years in college near Boston, Corinne moved back to NY/NJ to work as a DJ, Dancer, and MC in order to have the flexiblity needed to persue her acting and comedy career. Eventually things got to hard and the usually optomistic and fearless girl decided to settle for the average life. She became a store manager at Radio Shack and was married by the time she was twenty-two.Almost giving up on her dreams, she managed to find very little time to perform with sketch comedy troupes and theater groups. She always dropped everything she was doing just to enjoy the little dose of comedy that kept her personal comedic side still alive, by listening to Talk Radio funny guys Opie & Anthony on a daily basis at work, home, or driving. The Duo she said who inspired her sick and twisted masculine sense of humor from the time she started college in Boston." Opie, Anthony, and Jim Norton were the ones that took cringe humor to a whole new level for me, I want to make people laugh the deep way they make me laugh... I was soo pissed when they got kicked off the air unjustly...but on the brighter side they managed to make the biggest comeback in Radio History by going to XM Satellite Radio, proving that comedy is always in high demand regardless of the platform or type of humor it is."She took some advice given to her by a fellow comedian to follow her instincts and make the move to LA. On a whim, the twenty-seven year old drove all the way to Los Angeles in a car covered with WOW stickers to promote her favorite show "The Opie and Anthony Show." She settled in Los Angeles and immediately started booking commercials, music videos, television roles and a regular spot at the Laugh Factory. As for the future, Corinne looks forward to being involved in every aspect of the entertainment industry. She wants to produce, direct, perform and write her own projects. She is an ambitious and beautiful Puerto Rican woman who will make a name for herself."In order to make a name for myself I have to stand out in some way... I mean on the outside I'm a typical female, I dress to impress and all that jazz.... but the second I open my mouth... you can instantly tell I think and act like a man... How else will a Puerto Rican woman be able to take over the world!"
